SAMPLE.TXT
The BRAINO game consists of a series of riddles, puzzles, anagrams,
rebuses, definitions, manipulated numbers and items of general
knowledge. The questions are tough and (mostly) fair.
Let's give you a few ideas what to expect:
1. London Times-style Crossword Puzzle definitions:
a. A Fine Roman (4) -- Answer NERO. (fi-ne Ro-man).
b. Nice Roman estate (5) -- Answer MANOR. Rearrangment of
letters in Roman.
c. Tiber sailor (5) -- Answer Roman (Row-man = sailor).
None of the definitions are straight forward but they do provide
a number of clues.
In parentheses are the number of letters in the answer. The
notation (4,5) means two words in answer, four and five letters
each.
2. Arithmetic:
a. What is the missing number? (1 2 ? 4 5). Answer 3.
b. A book costs $1 plus half its price. How much does it cost?
Answer: $2.
The actual arithmetic problems are a bit more difficult than these
samples.
3. Rebus:

Answer: Encircle (N-circle).
4. Anagrams:
ABCD CD EFDG Answer This is easy
5. General knowledge:
a. Which State doesn't belong in the group?
OREGON, WASHINGTON, CALIFORNIA, MASSACHUSETTS.
Answer: Oregon (only one in the group starting with a
vowel)
(We said the questions were "mostly" fair.)
b. Next name in group?
ADAMS, BARNES, BENSON & ?
Answer: Billings. (Alphabetical listing of North Dakota
counties.)
c. The best city in the United States?
Answer: Lancaster PA (Everyone knows that)
We think you have an idea what to expect.
If you have troubles:
1. You can take any number of guesses so keep putting in the
information until you get the right answer. For instance, if we
asked for a number between 1 and 10, you could get the right answer
in eight or fewer tries.
2. Use the ANSWER programs only as a last resort. It is more fun
to work out the solution yourself.
3. Lastly, you can always use the DEBUG program to find the
answer. You use the debug search command to find a certain phrase
such as "Nice Roman Estate" and you get "MANOR". Here is how it
would look:

On the right you get:
(fi.ne Ro.man)
... b. Nice Ro

..Answer MANOR.

You can use DEBUG for programs BRAINO1-4 but, to offer you more of
a challenge, we have scrambled the answers in BRAINO5-8 so that you
won't have any luck finding them with DEBUG.
Good Luck to you.
